Mosquito-borne diseases like avian malaria are contributing to the rapid population decline of several species of Hawaiian forest birds. KFBRP conducts mosquito surveys on the Alakaʻi Plateau to determine where to concentrate mosquito abatement efforts. KFBRP deploys several types of mosquito traps that must be checked regularly and samples that are obtained need analysis when they are brought back to the lab.
