Club 300 has granted KFBRP $5,000 to help control mosquitos and invasive weeds. Mosquitos pose a huge threat to native birds because they can transmit diseases like avian malaria. Invasive weeds that find their way into native bird habitat exacerbate the mosquito problem by slowing stream flows and creating standing pools of water that provide breeding grounds for mosquitos.
With some species of birds falling below 500 individuals, the staff at KFBRP never stops working to find strategies to protect native birds and restore their populations. For more information about the Club 300 grant, you can read the full article in the Garden Island News.
